Art of the 2 for 1 Trade

Some people find trading intimidating and rather boring, while others find it super exciting and fun. In both my basketball and football leagues we trade a lot. As you guys already know. But from time to time I like to throw my thoughts out there on ways to make trading easier.... Year in and year out I would have to say that I am one of the most active in the trading market. Sending many offers and talking to owners about deals. Now deals don't always get done but it sure is fun sizing up your guys with other owners and finding who they like or dis like. Even if I do not get a trade in and just end up talking about my team and there's. I find that fun lol.... So that is one reason why I love fantasy basketball..... We have all come to understand what the best strategy is for this game, right?

THE FLOATER SYSTEM

The floater system is what I call guys that float around from team to team and in and out of free agency. These guys typically average 15.0 or less but when you used properly they could win you the week and even more, the Championship!.... The grey area on these players is weather or not they hold a 2 position flex rating... Those players are usually valued higher in trades and for good reason.... We have found out over time that if you run a 2 player floating system then you are able to maximize the plays you get every week... Most teams will have around 38 plays a week ( not counting this week). But if you can get over 40 plays and manage to lose, then you have nothing to be ashamed of. Well unless you had over 40 plays and scored less then 600. Then I would still be worried lol..... 

The 2 for 1 Trade

The 2 for 1 deals to me are rather simple. We all know that we are looking for 20 point average guys. And in our league we should average about 3.5 twenty average guys per team... Some already have 5 and some have 2. Give it a few weeks and we will start to see who really has all the 20 average guys. But when we start to notice who has depth and who doesn't, then that is when the 2-1 trades should really start coming out. So when making offers for these 20 average guys remember this. When you offer a 2 for 1 for that 20 plus guy, the owner who is giving up the one will get to add someone from FAs. Typically a guy who will get them some were from 13-15 points. So for example I think trades like this should work....

Player A trades:

Williams avg 20.0

to 

Player B for:

Jones avg 18.0

Smith avg 17.0

They both add up to 35 once Player A team adds a floater... Also keep in mind that doing a 2-1 trade can help a team with little depth while helping the other team add a floater spot. Win win!!!

FLEX PLAYERS

Flex players are guys who hold a 2 position ranking. These guys are actually more valuable then you might think. And when trading for them you should always add about 2-3 points more on there average. The guys owning them will already be doing this so when making offers for them you should do the same... So if a 15.0 guy is a floater, then that would mean a flex guy who averages 12.5 would also be own able. So lets take a look at what Flex position is the most valuable....

               who have a flex rating and also average
             20 points or more.

There are only 10 pg/sg players who are projected to average 9.7 or more...Two of them are un owned. Williams, who you see in Blue is one of them un owned and he is the 6th best at this flex..  I know I am the one who dropped him, maybe I should go add him back lol.  But when dealing one of these 6 players. You have to add more value to them then what they show. Especially McCollum! He is in a tier by himself and Holiday would be in the 2nd tier by himself. These 2 guys are very valuable.

There are 10 guys projected to average 10.2 or more at this flex position. And guess what? Half of them are still available to be added in our league... But I believe only 7 of them are ownable. 2 of them 7 are still out there. Evans and Turner... I believe Evans could and should be added, I already own 2 of those 7 so I cant add  him. But curious to see if Evans gets added after someone reads this write-up...

As you see the SF/PF spots are very deep... Actually there are 17 guys who average 10.7 or more based on projections... By far the deepest of all the flex slots.... Out of them 17 though, only 15 are owned... Marvin Williams and LeVert are only 2 un owned.... GA and Lebron are in there own tier while I would say Green is in the second tier by himself. They show Mello will average 18.6 but who in the world besides Mellos mom would believe he will be even close to that.

Just like the sg/sf and the pg/sg... We have 10 people who will average around 10 or more a game. But out of these 10 only 7 are owned and honestly that is all that should be owned. This flex is probably the weakest of all the flex's. The guys ranked 4, 5, 6 and 7 will be strong contenders for a high end floater and possibly will be on peoples teams for long stretches...but the top 3 guys. Jokic, Whiteside and Turner should all be sold at premium prices. These guys are almost as rare as the northern white rhinos. So for now on I will be referring to these 3 guys as my white rhinos. Todd owns 2 of them and if I didnt already love his team name then i would recommend that he change his team name to the White Rhinos lol
